The senior meeting scheduled for 20Jan09 has been CANCELLED due to the Winter Weather Storm Warning in effect from 2400L 19Jan09 until 2000L 20Jan09.  The cadet meeting on 22Jan09 is still currently scheduled.

Several of us have to drive considerable distances to attend the meeting. I'd rather we play it safe and not endanger any of our members or property.  If it does indeed snow, everyone please be safe and stay off the roads.

I've sent out an email to all members that I have addresses for re: cancellation.

MER Commander Col Vasquez announced today that effective 1Jan09, Lt Col Roy Douglass will become the NC Wing Commander. He is currently the Chief of Staff for NC Wing.

Reminder: This week's meeting is PFT night!!

Be sure to wear WARM PT clothes or BDUs Thursday the 4th, we want to get right into the PFT and finish the outside portion quickly.  Also, we'll be going over the ICS 700 info for mandatory SAR training - how missions work.

Also, if weather cooperates this time, we're off to Halifax County for O-Flights and SAR training.  I'll need at least 4 people to go and I need the names for Capt. Draper Thursday night.  The plan is the same as last try: depart the Squadron building around 0830, arrive around 0930, O-Flights will be underway with two aircraft (4 cadets in the air) troughout the day with Emergency Services SQTR task sign offs underway while each cadet is on the ground.

BDUs are required, as are SQTRs and Form 60s.  Most important, clothing and equipment to keep you safe and warm (layers are good, and they don't have to be mil-spec.  The list of ES equipment should be consulted and you should know what you have and what you need (especially items marked with a "T" as they are the minimum for advanced training.)  If you need an item and we have it, it can be issued, so do your personal inventories and let us know what you're missing.

For more info, contact Lt. Nelson

From Major Dabney:

I would like to announce that the 2009 North Carolina Wing Encampment will be held 20 to 27 June 2009 and hosted by the Marines at Camp LeJeune in Jacksonville, NC.

This encampment will much different than the last five or six encampments. One of the biggest changes is that we will have a barracks with 6 man rooms and 2 man rooms for the staff. Second we are having a variety of new activities that are in the planning stages that are better than anything we have seen in the past. This will provide everyone a different perspective on the Marines and the diverse type of jobs found around the military.

Some of the activities in planning are land navigation course, confidence course, team building course, leadership development courses, explosive ordinance disposal demonstration, tour of the Marine Air Station at New River with possible Orientation rides aboard Marine Aviation Aircraft. We also are planning advanced leadership classes for the staff from senior marine NCO instructors.

The deadline for cadet staff applications will be announced by the middle of next week.

Encampment applications will NOT be accepted after the close of business 1 May 2009.

Encampment Commander is Major Linwood M. Dabney, and Commandant of Cadet is Captain Andy Wiggs.

We look forward to seeing each of you at the encampment next year.

Sincerely

Linwood Dabney, Maj. CAP Encampment Commander
